Straight From the Cork

Many people associate corks with the plugging of luxury products such as wine and eateries. Consumers also disassociate the possibility of cork being implemented as an environmentally sustainable substitution for harmful chemicals. Cork,  another environmentally friendly alternative has posed mass amounts of improvements through the substitution of detrimental shoe material. The same cork that is used to sustain luxury products such as wine and other food products has also been acclaimed to be the best alternative for shoe products. The cork is harvested straight from a cork oak tree, which means that the production process is minimal, requiring only a simple harvest to be prepared for usage.  Along with the benefits of environmental sustainability, the harvesting of cork from the oak trees also increases the life of the tree 3 times longer than it would without harvesting. Cork leather also provides a pleasant wearing experience, being compared to material such as memory foam...

Low Cost & Impact On The Environment

HJM is not only focusing on quality materials but also affordability. These two subjects correlate hand in hand because the affordability is based on the materials. We have worked with other companies in finding reusable materials. Thankfully Cariuma is another eco-friendly shoe company that has helped guide us in the shoe-making process. Cariuma suggested using recycled materials such as water bottles and paper to cut down some of the cost. HJM has even established using bamboo, a highly absorbent resource in CO2. with all the methods that can produce carbon Dioxide, HJM will help minimize the amount going into the Atmosphere. Our partners have also helped us find a safe way to preserve trees ethically, which causes no damage to the trees in gathering rubber. Through the help of other businesses, HJM has established an effective process to manufacture shoes in an eco-friendly way and keep them affordable for consumers. Individuals who want to know more can find more information on our...

There are over 7 billion people existing on the Earth, and if every person only had one pair of shoes, that would mean 14 billion individual shoes on earth at this moment. This number is a rough estimate, but it is likely higher because the majority of people own multiple pairs. Regardless of the number of shoes in the world, at some point each shoe will deteriorate in condition, and come to the end of its life cycle. However, what generally happens to shoes when they can no longer be used?  Often, people are quick to throw out old shoes, and they normally end up in the landfill. On the surface, this does not seem like a huge problem, because the landfill is where trash belongs, but it negatively affects the planet. When old shoes sit in a landfill for an extended period of time, the harmful chemicals used in the manufacturing process slowly soak into our Earth's soil. This contaminates the soil, and could potentially contaminate our drinking water. These contaminants can lead to s...
